Give Up or Turn It Up… The Choice Is Yours!
“Work hard in silence. Let success make the noise!”
Don’t ever let anyone work harder than you! You cannot always control if someone is better than you at something, but what you can control is how you respond to it. You can either give up or turn it up.
Giving up is easy and is what losers do when they face a challenge. Winners always turn it up and do everything in their power to outwork those around them. And when they do, they do not make a big deal about it. Instead they just feel grateful for how far they’ve come and look forward to getting even better.
There are many ways you can outwork others. In your martial arts training, besides working out on a regular basis, you could train on holidays when you know others are taking the day off. In class class you can strive to have the lowest stances, highest kicks, most powerful strikes and fastest blocks. You can work to get lower in the splits, have the best safety falls and the most effective self-defense skills. You can make it a goal to get hit the least in sparring, have more stamina than your partner and throw the most combos in a match. Whatever you choose, there are countless ways for you to improve.
Class Discussion Questions:
• What could you improve on the most in martial arts/school/work?
• What are some goals you could set that would help you improve?
